Buy Local this Holiday Season!

We are excited to announce our first ever holiday markets! On two of the busiest shopping days of the year – the Saturday after Thanksgiving (also known as Small Business Saturday), November 24, and the Saturday before Christmas, December 22 – we will operate from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. showcasing over 75 local vendors.

Located next to the popular ice skating rink at Veterans Plaza, these two holiday markets will offer shoppers a festive buy local experience. With a diversity of vendors featuring original artwork, handmade and imported crafts, antiques, bath and body products, clothing, jewelry, kids toys and more, shoppers can be sure to find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on their lists all in one place. Many vendors will be running sales on their merchandise for the holidays, offering gift sets, and taking custom orders. Additionally, the holiday markets will feature live music and an eco-friendly DIY gift-wrapping station so shoppers can wrap up all of the holiday gifts they bought.

State Senator Jamie Raskin (District 20, Silver Spring and Takoma Park) describes why these markets will be part of his holiday shopping, “I’m doing all my holiday shopping in Silver Spring and Takoma Park, and our homegrown Fenton Street Market presents an exciting, eclectic, unpredictable and totally satisfying shopping experience in the community for consumers who don’t want to lose their soul (or their children!) in a shopping mall. Think global and shop local!”

A frequent shopper and long-time supporter of the Fenton Street Market, Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin says, “I encourage everyone to patronize local small businesses this holiday season because these businesses are part of the fabric of our community and have a significant impact on our local economy. We have learned many lessons in the redevelopment of downtown Silver Spring, including the need to focus on promoting small, homegrown businesses. Local markets like the Fenton Street Market positively impact employment, income and commerce in ways that have truly tapped the power and diversity in the Silver Spring community.”
